WHAT IS VENETIAN PLASTER?
Also known as “stucco Veneziano”, Venetian plaster is a wall and ceiling finish made from magnesium-grade dolomite limestone. Made popular in Venice, Italy during the Renaissance, the most beautiful mansions and hotels in Venice all incorporate this glossy, almost marble effect look. A big reason why it has stood the test of time, quite literally, is due to the materials construction. Made of Limestone putty and marble dust, not only is it eco-friendly, it is extremely hard wearing and robust! It's incredibly hard when dry, can withstand massive pressure without cracking or chipping, and is much more resilient to the movement of buildings as they heat and cool or shift over time ( or sink, if you're in Venice ).
Highly flexible when raw, it can bend around curved pillars, rounded corners, be molded into intricate details, or even sculpted. Authentic lime plaster, made with the highest quality of ingredients, will age gracefully, and will serve as an excellent sound barrier and insulator.
Venetian plasters are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and non-toxic. Unlike synthetic or acrylic plasters, authentic lime plasters inhibit and prevent bacteria growth on the surface and inside the walls. This eliminates the possibility of mold and mildew and helps provide good air quality in the space. Lime plaster is also hypoallergenic, resulting in a healthy indoor living environment.
IS VENETIAN PLASTERING EXPENSIVE?
The Value of Venetian Plaster, and how long it lasts, far outweighs the small differences in price of other high quality plasters.
WHY IS IT GOING VIRAL?
The comeback of Venetian plastering is due to it fitting the changed needs of the populous. People are demanding eco-friendly ways of building and decorating their homes. Not only is it made of sustainable and eco-friendly material, it improves the air quality in the home.
It is a reflective material, that really makes a home feel light and spacious, and clean. It complements minimalism, modernism, and vintage styles so it can fit in to almost any setting, and add a real value to the design.
WHAT ARE POPULAR CHOICES?
The most popular colors are natural, earthy colors, monochrome, shades of grey and white, or navy blue and dark purple, often embossed with gold leaf to add a deep luxury, or mysterious outer space feel.
